PDF Files - FAQs and Information
What kind of electronic files are needed to print my book?
You'll need your files saved as PDF (Portable Document Format) files, and two separate files are needed one for the cover and one for the interior of the book. PDF files have become industry-standard for both printing books and sharing Web documents, and virtually all book printers require today. You can create (or convert to) your own PDF files using popular programs such as Adobe corporation's Acrobat Writer. Or, if you prefer not to attempt your own PDF creation or conversion, we provide book conversion and design services. Contact Us for details.
What is a PDF file?
“PDF” stands for Portable Document Format, a document file format that was created in the 1990's by Adobe Systems Inc. PDF electronic format has so many useful features that it has become the standard for creating and sharing electronic documents. For example, PDF files are multi-platform (can be viewed on almost any computer operating system) and have a high degree of functionality for printing services. As a result, PDF has become the standard for book printing services and many other applications.
Why do you require that my book to be in PDF format?
PDF format virtually guarantees that book files created on almost any system can be read and used by any printer. Additionally, features such as advanced color handling and font capabilities give you assurance that your book will look as you expected it to, without having to worry about matching your file to the systems used by your book printing vendor.
Why must my cover and manuscript files be saved as two separate files?
Most standard books have color covers on the exterior, and black letters on white paper on the interior. We will print your book exteriors and interiors separately. The cover will be affixed to the page after the binding of the interior pages is completed. So, the two files represent two different aspects of the book printing process.
What if my book isn't in PDF format?

What happens after you convert my file to PDF format?
Your electronic file will be sent to you for approval. Then, after you approve it, you will continue through the printing process, including receiving a “physical proof” copy of your book for approval.
(Please note that the editing of your book should be complete before either the PDF conversion process or the printing and physical proof process are initiated – otherwise significant additional charges may be incurred.)
